When the user submits a request to open the maintenance screen, the application executes the initial lifecycle. The first thing it does is check the page mode to determine how to proceed. The possible modes the application checks for are:
- New mode: Creates a new instance of the business object.
- Update mode: Accesses an existing instance of the business object with all associated collections.
From the user's perspective, new mode is creating a new record and update mode is opening an existing record.
