Configure the Child Panel

Introduction

A maintenance form is based on one form object, and the columns in that object’s table can be easily added and configured from the entity attributes. For ease of navigation, it’s often necessary to add columns from the entity’s child table or tables so the user can view or edit those values, or use them to navigate elsewhere without having to perform a search.

QUICK STEPS
1 Create a new panel
2 Select the panel type
Click OK
Open the panel properties
5 Update the properties
6 Add desired tabs to the panel
7 Open the tab’s properties
8 Update the properties
9 Edit the tab's table
10 Open the Entity tab on the Left Panel
11 Add a grid
12 Select the columns
13 Click Next
14 Click Next
15 Edit the field properties
16 Change the field order
17 Click Finish
18 Configure any other tabs
19 Save the form

Detailed Steps

Step 1. Create a new panel.

To add a panel, click the space between existing panels. This example places tabs in this panel.

Step 2. Select the panel type.

S3 displays the Add Panel popup. Select Add Panel With Tab Container.

Step 3. Click OK.

Step 4. Open the panel properties.

Open the panel’s Properties tab on the Left Panel. This enables you to edit custom properties for the panel.

Step 5. Update the properties.

You’re always going to update the ID and caption so they’re meaningful. When you change the caption, it appears in the title bar right away.

Step 6. Add desired tabs to the panel.

Click the + icon on the tab to add another tab to the panel. This example uses two tabs.

Step 7. Open the tab’s properties.

Step 8. Update the properties.

Just like a panel, you have to give a tab a meaningful ID. The text the user sees on a tab is called the Header Text.

Step 9. Edit the tab's table.

This example puts a collection in this tab. It’s best to reduce it to one cell.

Step 10. Open the Entity tab on the Left Panel.

The entity contains the collections. This example uses those collections to create grids.

Step 11. Add a grid.

Select the collection that contains the values you want in the grid and click the Grid control type. This starts a wizard for configuring the grid.

Step 12. Select the columns.

These are the columns whose values you want in the grid.

Step 13. Click Next.

Step 14. Click Next.

These are the buttons you want the user to have on the grid to manipulate it. Usually you skip this step and configure buttons later.

For now, the grid won’t have any buttons.

Step 15. Edit the field properties.

This configures the fields with the desired appearance and behavior.

Step 16. Change the field order.

Select a field and use the arrows to change the order. Up-down is left-right.

Step 17. Click Finish.

The grid is on the form now.

Step 18. Configure any other tabs.

If your form has tabs for other child information, configure those tabs.

Step 19. Save the form.

Now in the application, the user can view the child information in the configured controls.
