XML File Properties

The purpose of the XML file is to bind the template bookmarks to the corresponding database values. When you create the XML file, you set the following important properties:

  • Correspondence Template: This is the application record, and is why the application record has to exist prior to creating the XML file. The drop down will list all the correspondences for which the record is created in the application but the XML file is not yet created.
  • Entity Name: The form is based on the entity. This is the entity that contains the data you want to map to the template bookmarks. All the field and table bookmarks will get their values from this entity.
  • Master Template: If you don't have an individual Word template for the correspondence, you can select the master template. S3 will use the template to create a new, otherwise blank Word template with the correct file name (same as the correspondence Template Code) in the correct system path.
  • Path: Location S3 will save the correspondence XML in. It populates automatically based on the path of the entity file, but you can change it.
  • Resource: This is a security setting, just like a resource for any other application file.
  • Header Template: This is the Word template whose header data the system adds in the top margin of the generated correspondence. The drop down will list all the available Word templates.
  • Footer Template: This is the Word template whose footer data the system adds in the bottom margin of the generated correspondence. The drop down will list all the available Word templates.

When you have created the XML file, you can edit the Word document text: add, edit, or delete bookmarks in the template; and map template bookmarks.
